Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE COST OF A LEEWARD ISLANDS YACHT CHARTER?
Your Ancora Yacht charter includes private access to your chosen yacht, a full professional crew, and use of all onboard amenities. Expenses like food, fuel, taxes, dockage, and gratuities are typically handled through an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA). If you’re anchored off small islands in the BVI or sailing into the harbors of Antigua, everything is tailored to your trip.
DO I NEED SAILING EXPERIENCE TO CHARTER A YACHT? +
No boating license or prior experience is needed. Every charter comes with a captain and experienced crew, allowing you to enjoy the ride as the trade winds carry you through the Caribbean Sea.
WHAT TRAVEL DOCUMENTS DO I NEED? +
You’ll need a valid passport. Before departure, you’ll complete a charter agreement and a preference sheet that outlines your dietary needs and ideal activities, like snorkeling off the coast of St John or visiting naval heritage sites in Antigua.
CAN I CHOOSE THE FOOD AND DRINKS ONBOARD? +
Yes. Your chef will create a custom menu based on your preferences. From elegant dinners to beach barbecues, expect flavors inspired by global cuisine and the local ingredients of the West Indian Islands.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO CHARTER IN THE LEEWARD ISLANDS? +
Peak season runs from December to April. This stretch of the Leeward chain sees consistent breezes, calm seas, and ideal temperatures, all perfect for exploring protected anchorages and coastal towns.
WHAT MAKES THE LEEWARD ISLANDS UNIQUE COMPARED TO OTHER ISLANDS? +
The Leewards offer easy sailing, short passages, and diverse stops, from the pink sands of Barbuda to the hidden sea caves of Norman Island. Unlike the Windward Islands, which cover the southern arc of the Lesser Antilles, the Leewards sit farther north and cater to travelers looking for relaxed, upscale island-hopping.
ARE THE LEEWARD ISLANDS PART OF THE LESSER ANTILLES? +
Yes. The Leeward Islands form the northern portion of the Lesser Antilles, a volcanic and coral island region in the West Indies. These include Antigua, Barbuda, the British Virgin Islands, the US Virgin Islands, and other islands like St Barts and St Martin, depending on your itinerary.
CAN WE VISIT SOME WINDWARD ISLANDS (SAINT VINCENT, GRENADA, DOMINICA) ON THIS TRIP? +
Not on this itinerary. Saint Vincent, Grenada, and Dominica are part of the Windward group, also known as the îles du vent or islas de barlovento, located at the southern end of the Lesser Antilles. Visiting these destinations would require a separate charter focused on the Windward Islands. If you're looking to explore the Greater Antilles, including Puerto Rico or Jamaica, we offer alternate routes outside the Eastern Caribbean.
